Sky, the Moinian Group’s 1,175-unit tower in Midtown West, is fully rented 18 months after leasing launch. The 71-story building designed by Hill West Architects rises from the corner of West 42nd Street and Twelfth Avenue at the crossroads of the rapidly-evolving Hudson Yards area and Hell’s Kitchen.
The slab-shaped skyscraper sits just east of Atelier , a 478-unit condo tower developed by the Moinian Group in 2007. To make way for both structures, Moinian purchased a 1.5-acre site that once held a Verizon phone facility and a Mobil gas station for $120 million in 2005. Now, with more than 1,500 apartments between the two finished buildings, the investment has ushered in new retail, pedestrian activity, and vibrancy to an area once perceived as too far-flung.
