The couple would sometimes drive past the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens building, PLG, going up near Flatbush Avenue. “It is pretty much the biggest building in this neighborhood, so you see it from blocks away,” Mr. Braithwaite said. “I saw that they were planning to have a basketball court and I was sold, even though I haven’t played basketball in three or four years.”
They knew and liked the neighborhood; Ms. Mascall’s grandfather lived five minutes away, and Mr. Braithwaite’s mother a bit farther. “It felt good to be close to family,” Ms. Mascall said. “It really came down to ideal location, amenities and having three months free of rent.”
